Ultraviolet Sterilizers Ultraviolet light (or simply "UV") is a highly effective, online and non-chemical method of water disinfection. In addition to E.Coli, Total Coliform, virus, algae, moulds etc, UV light is considered effective against protozoa such as Cryptosporidium and Giardia Lamblia. Water enters through the bottom port of the UV reactor chamber and swirls around a low-pressure mercury vapor lamp, thermally protected by a quartz sleeve. The UV lamp emits powerful ultraviolet light energy at a wavelength of 253.7 nm that destroys the RNA structure of these organisms, rendering them inactivated. Treated water then exits through the top port of the chamber and is ready for consumption. UV systems can be installed for disinfecting whole-house water supplies, commercial water systems and point of use applications.
